We believe everyone is creative

Beyond the open doors of St George’s, we also work with schools, artists and other arts organisations to create projects for young people across the city.

Our projects include the Cosmos Children’s Community Choir, a long-term singing project for children in schools in South Bristol. (Discover some of our free online ‘Sing from Home’ videos below.)

We partner Preludes, the education arm of the Bristol Ensemble – we support them by taking some of our visiting artists into ‘Preludes schools’, and also by bringing children into the venue for specially created events.

With our friends at Bristol Beacon we deliver ‘Sounds Inspiring’, a celebration of everything about young people’s music-making.

“I was pleased to see children who don’t normally listen carefully were very enthusiastic. Many went away wanting to learn an instrument!”

What are MiniBeats & Wild Words?

MiniBeats and Wild Words are two series of events for young people. We run these regularly (usually coinciding with local school holidays – though sometimes, we take these events into local schools as well!)

Working with local presenter and musician Laura Tanner, as well as musicians from the Bristol Ensemble, MiniBeats introduces children to the different families of instruments (strings, woodwind, brass, and percussion – as well as keyboards!)

Wild Words is a musical storytelling series covering a range of exciting and topical themes and plotlines.

These are just two strands of Family events in our programme!

MiniBeats Brilliant Brass was nothing short of fantastic!!! My son and his friends loved every minute of it and came out bouncing up and down shouting ‘that was AWESOME’!!! It has also inspired us to encourage our son to take up an instrument ! We would love to come to more of these and we thought it was especially great that there was a good mix of families with children who have special educational needs and families who don’t all enjoying it together. Hurrah!
