Come celebrate Piano Day with three of the UK’s top postclassical pianists.

Postclassical Assembly invites you to celebrate Piano Day 2023 with Alexandra Hamilton-Ayres, Simeon Walker and Larkhall.

Piano Day is an annual worldwide event founded by a group of likeminded people, taking place on the 88th day of the year – in 2023 it’s the 29th March – because of the number of keys on the instrument being celebrated. To celebrate Piano Day 2022, Piano Day Official & LEITER created a compilation with thirty-two exclusive and unreleased piano pieces from various corners of the world. This release featured both Alexandra Hamilton-Ayres’ Change Ringing and Simeon Walker’s Reverie alongside artists such as Nils Frahm, Olafur Arnalds and Chilly Gonzales.

Award-winning film composer and multi-instrumentalist Alexandra Hamilton-Ayres blends sound worlds with her love for the piano, orchestrated into a rich palette of electronica and classical music described by Mary Anne Hobbs (BBC Radio 6) as “hauntingly beautiful”. Hamilton-Ayres’ latest album PLAY ECHOES was recorded with Her Ensemble in Berlin’s iconic Funkhaus and is released by Nils Frahm’s label LEITER.

Brudenell Piano Sessions founder and Radio 3 darling Simeon Walker’s calm, introspective instrumentals have seen him quickly emerge as a leading light in the burgeoning postclassical scene. His work has been described by Gold Flake Paint as “Beautifully captivating”.

Bristol-based Composer/pianist and creative coder Larkhall brings a mad scientist touch— he’s built a computer system called Otto who creates live visuals in response to his performance. His harmonious music has earned accolades from across Europe and the USA, with his 2019 debut album The Sea Was Never Blue reaching the #2 spot on the UK iTunes Classical chart. Times Radio described Larkhall as “a new exciting voice on the contemporary scene”.
