Programme

Skalkottas 5 Greek Dances
Haydn Symphony No 82, The Bear
Brahms Violin Concerto Op 77

Throughout the evening, the audience will be treated to a playful programme influenced by folk tradition and dance. The evening begins with a lively suite of Five Greek Dances by Nikos Skalkottas, which bring together traditional melodies with rhythmic complexity using Greek folk music and dance. In the final movement of the symphony, Haydn has a lot of fun using musical devices such as drones and rustic motifs to evoke the dancing bear of its title. The Brahms Violin Concerto is a monumental work in the concerto repertoire, but even here the dance theme continues in the final movement where Brahms draws inspiration from Hungary.

Brandon Hill Chamber Orchestra is thrilled to be collaborating once again with Maria Włoszczowska who is now not only Artistic Partner with the Royal Northern Sinfonia but also leader/director of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.

Tonight’s concert is generously supported by Janetta Mitchinson to raise awareness and funds for people living with Parkinson’s.
