This musical tour begins in Rome and Venice with splendid multi-choir works by Tiburtio Massaino and Giovanni Gabrieli sung from the balconies of St George’s Bristol. These revolutionary pieces feature spatial effects and dynamic contrasts, creating a sense of dialogue between different parts of the ensemble.
Rarely-performed music by female composers Chiara Cozzolani and Rafaella Aleotti that contrast large tutti sections with expressive and flamboyant solo passages take us to 17th century Milan and Ferrara, with visits to Bologna, Cremona, Verona, Mantua, Florence and Naples completing our tour.
