Johnny Flynn & Robert Macfarlane: Lost in the Cedar Wood

This event has passed.

Doors 7.30pm for an 8pm start

Johnny Flynn and Robert Macfarlane present a unique song-and-story performance of their stunning album, Lost in the Cedar Wood.

Created during the pandemic, the album bases itself loosely upon the world’s oldest written work of literature, The Epic of Gilgamesh. The themes and landscapes of this epic poem intertwine with those of lockdown-era Britain to form a work of exceptional strangeness and beauty, at once ancient and urgent.

Flynn, lauded musician and actor, and Macfarlane, internationally celebrated writer known for his explorations of nature, time and people, here join forces to weave the album’s beautiful songs together with spoken stories. This extraordinary show — first performed to sell-out audiences at Shakespeare’s Globe in February — draws its listeners on a 4000-year-long dream-journey from Mesopotamia through to our fragile present moment, and on into the uncertain future.

Moving, unsettling, joyful, thrilling –– it is a performance like no other.
