Celebrating the 150th anniversary of Alexander Scriabin, in this special concert, Jonathan Powell will takes us on a journey through the composer’s piano sonatas and miniatures, showing the development of Scriabin’s musical vision.
Scriabin had a deep impact on Russian music, influencing later composers such as Prokofiev and Stravinsky. Tolstoy described his music as a ‘sincere expression of genius’. Scriabin is most know for his interest in Synaesthesia- a condition in which one type of sensory stimulation evokes a sensation in another. He also pioneered a dissonant musical language in the early 20th century, focused on piano and orchestra, which is strikingly modern to our contemporary ears.
