Slowly Rolling Camera + Modulus III

This event has passed.

Two of the most original improv-driven bands in the southwest perform on one double-bill, showcasing their own highly individual soundworlds.

Modulus III kick off the evening with their thrillingly spontaneous approach to composition. They work rigidly to one rule: every performance is entirely improvised. No preparation, no safety net – the purest, most dangerous place to make music, and precisely why Matt Brown (drums), Drew Morgan (cello, synthesisers) and Dan Moore (acoustic and electric piano, synthesisers) choose to call it home. Since the release of their critically acclaimed debut album in 2018, the group have been performing across the UK and Europe. Highlights include an ongoing residency at La Gare in Paris, a collaboration with drummer Clive Deamer (Portishead, Radiohead) and an upcoming documentary and live album recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios.

Slowly Rolling Camera follow, colliding jazz, trip-hop and cinematic soundscapes into an expansive musical vision underpinned by a sophisticated lyricism and rhythmic drive. Their latest album Where the Streets Lead, released in July 2021, received huge praise and included stand-out tracks featuring world-class guests including Mark Lockheart, Jasper Høiby, Verneri Pohjola, Chris Potter and Sachal Vasandani, as well as the band’s regular guitarist Stuart McCallum. Where the Streets Lead is a natural progression and development of the bands’ exploration and joy of collaboration communicated through an audio-sensory landscape.
