Which famous choral work remained secret, only to be performed in the Sistine Chapel pending threat of excommunication from the Pope, until the young Mozart is supposed to have heard it and transcribed it note for note?

Which well-loved orchestral work is a set of musical sketches each dedicated to the composer’s close circle of friends, and is also believed to include a hidden melody?

Which orchestral tone poem had to be performed under many different names to avoid censorship?

If you are curious to find out the answers to these musical riddles, come and enjoy our eclectic classical music programme.  There is no mystery around the music itself, as there will be so many instantly recognisable pieces and well-loved favourites in our wide-ranging programme which will appeal alike to classical music lovers and those exploring the genre for the first time.  We are pleased to welcome critically acclaimed Southbank Sinfonia, comprising some of the world’s most promising graduate musicians, appearing for the first time at St George’s, paired with the Fitzhardinge Consort, the South West’s premier vocal ensemble and firm St George’s favourites.
