Split Tone presents a special evening dedicated to the American saxophone titan Stanley Turrentine, most famously known for his contribution to the ‘soul jazz’ genre. Born in Pittsburgh, Turrentine played in Earl Bostic’s iconic band before teaming up with Hammond behemoth Jimmy Smith and featuring on Kenny Burrell’s most celebrated jazz album Midnight Blue. He also explored a fusion and jazz funk sound, collaborating with the likes Freddie Hubbard, George Benson and Ron Carter, to name a few. This tribute night to Stanley Turrentine will feature material from all of these periods and focus on some of his most famous material. It promises to be a hard swinging and exciting evening of music featuring four of the Southwest’s most talented jazz players.
