Children & Families

Down with the kids!

So we’re a 200-year-old former church. Yes, we’re a listed building, and we’re well known for taking our music pretty seriously. But of course we welcome children too. Bring the baby, tempt the teens – St George’s Bristol is for everyone. But check out the guidelines below first.

Like lots of other venues and cinemas we offer age guidance based on the content and style of the performance – nobody wants embarrassing, uncomfortable moments, least of all your kids. If you’re a parent, carer or guardian just check the event details on the website or give us a call if in doubt on 0117 929 4929.

Don’t forget that we open during the day as a great place to meet others and relax over a drink or quick bite in our family-friendly Cafe Bar. With great toilets, a welcoming atmosphere, simple and healthy food choices children will love, plus bottle-warming on request and plenty of space for buggies.

Things to note when booking a performance:

  • Our daytime family concerts are ideal for children aged 3 and under (particularly Mini Beats). But lunchtime concerts or evening concerts are not suitable unless otherwise stated. Ask for a free baby ticket for under 18-months as every admission must be ticketed, including babes-in-arms.
  • If you have children aged 4 – 7, our daytime family concerts and other child-friendly events will be fine. But we will indicate whether our lunchtime or evening concerts are age appropriate.
  • Children aged 8+ years (we suggest 14+ for more contemporary events) should enjoy most of our performances but please check the age guidance as some events may differ.
  • Remember: all children under 16 remain the responsibility of their parents, carers or supervisors whilst at the venue. Please keep an eye on them.
  • School groups attending public concerts must have a minimum ratio of one adult to ten children (under 16s) with at least two adults accompanying any group of children even if the group number is below ten.
  • For everyone’s comfort and enjoyment, if there is a disturbance, we might ask you to take your child or children out of the performance space. No hard feelings.
  • Find out more about our popular Relaxed Performances when we are able to be even more flexible, for example offering quiet spaces for anyone needing some time out.
